(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
