The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
