[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
