Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
