Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 Within gardens and springs 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
