The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists). 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 And orchards and springs. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
