(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 In gardens and springs. 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
