The Thamud belied the sent ones 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
