The prople of Lout (Lot) (those dwelt in the towns of Sodom in Palestine) belied the Messengers. 160 When their brother Lut said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 161 I am a trustworthy Messenger. 162 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 163 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds; 164 "Must you, of all people, [lustfully] approach men, 165 and leave your wives whom your Lord has created for you? You are a people who transgress all bounds." 166 They said: "If thou desist not, O Lut! thou wilt assuredly be cast out!" 167 He said: verily I am of those who abhor your work. 168 [And then he prayed:] "O my Sustainer! Save me and my household from all that they are doing!" 169 Thereupon We saved him and all his household 170 Save an old woman among the lingerers. 171 Thereafter, We utterly destroyed the rest, 172 and We sent upon them a rain, an evil rain that fell on those who had been warned. 173 Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 174 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might Most Merciful. 175

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
