The Ant (Al-Naml)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ These are verses of the Qur'an,-a book that makes (things) clear; 1 A guidance and glad tidings for the believers. 2 Those who perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give Zakat and they believe with certainty in the Hereafter (resurrection, recompense of their good and bad deeds, Paradise and Hell, etc.). 3 As to those who believe not in the Hereafter, We have made their deeds pleasing in their eyes; and so they wander about in distraction. 4 Those are they for whom shall be an evil torment. And in the Hereafter they shall be the greatest losers. 5 As to thee, the Qur'an is bestowed upon thee from the presence of one who is wise and all-knowing. 6 Behold! Moses said to his family: "I perceive a fire; soon will I bring you from there some information, or I will bring you a burning brand to light our fuel, that ye may warm yourselves. 7 So when he came to it a voice was uttered saying: Blessed is Whoever is in the fire and whatever is about it; and glory be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds; 8 “O Moosa, I am indeed, in truth, Allah the Almighty, the Wise.” 9 [And then He said:] "Now throw down thy staff!" But when he saw it move rapidly, as if it were a serpent, he drew back [in terror,] and did not [dare to] return. [And God spoke to him again:] O Moses! Fear not - for, behold, no fear need the message-bearers have in My Presence, 10 Except those who do some wrong but afterwards do good to make up for the wrong. And I am forgiving and merciful. 11 Put your hand into your pocket. It will come out sheer white but unharmed. This is one of the nine miracles which shall be showing to the Pharaoh and his people; they are truly wicked men." 12 But when Our tokens came unto them, plain to see, they said: This is mere magic, 13 And they belied them (those Ayat) wrongfully and arrogantly, though their ownselves were convinced thereof [i.e. those (Ayat) are from Allah, and Musa (Moses) is the Messenger of Allah in truth, but they disliked to obey Musa (Moses), and hated to believe in his Message of Monotheism]. So see what was the end of the Mufsidun (disbelievers, disobedient to Allah, evil-doers, liars.). 14
