Stories (Al-Qasas)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ta. Sin. Mim. 1 These are verses from the Book that makes things clear. 2 We recite to you some of the news of Musa (Moses) and Fir'aun (Pharaoh) in truth, for a people who believe (those who believe in this Quran, and in the Oneness of Allah). 3 Lo! Pharaoh exalted himself in the earth and made its people castes. A tribe among them he oppressed, killing their sons and sparing their women. Lo! he was of those who work corruption. 4 But We wanted to be gracious to those abased in the land, and to make them leaders and inheritors, 5 And to grant them power in the land, and to make Firon and Haman and their hosts see from them what they feared. 6 We suggested to the mother of Moses: "Suckle your child, but when you fear for his life cast him into the river and be not fearful nor grieve, for We shall restore him to you and make him one of the Messengers." 7 Then Pharaoh's household picked him up -- later to become for them an enemy and a source of grief for them: Pharaoh and Haman and their hosts were wrongdoers -- 8 And the wife of Pharaoh said, "[He will be] a comfort of the eye for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as a son." And they perceived not. 9 Moses' mother's heart was full of anxiety -- she would have disclosed his identity had We not strengthened her heart so that she might be a firm believer [in Our promise]. 10 and she said to his sister, 'Follow him,' and she perceived him from afar, even while they were not aware. 11 ۞ And We had aforetime forbidden foster-mothers for him; so she said: shall I direct you unto a household who will rear him for you and who will be unto him good counsellors? 12 So We restored him unto his mother that she might be comforted and not grieve, and that she might know that the promise of Allah is true.
