The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif Lam Mim. 1 The Byzantines have been defeated 2 In the nearer land, and they, after their defeat will be victorious 3 in a few years. To God belongs the Command before and after, and on that day the believers shall rejoice 4 in the victory of Allah. Allah gives victory to whosoever He will, and He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 [This is] God's promise. Never does God fail to fulfil His promise -- but most people do not know this; 6 They know only the outward appearance of the life of the world, and they! of the Hereafter, they are neglecetful. 7 Ponder they not in their minds: Allah hath not created the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain save with a purpose and for a term appointed? And verily many men in the meeting of their Lord are unbelievers. 8 Have they not travelled through the land to see how terrible was the end of the people who lived before them. The people who lived before them were stronger than them in might, in tilling, and in developing the earth. Our Messengers came to them with clear miracles. God did not do an injustice to them but they wronged themselves. 9 And once again: evil is bound to be the end of those who do evil by giving the lie to God's messages and deriding them. 10
