The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif-Laam-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 The Romans have been defeated 2 In a land close by; but they, (even) after (this) defeat of theirs, will soon be victorious- 3 Within a few years. With Allah is the Decision, in the past and in the Future: on that Day shall the Believers rejoice- 4 With the help of Allah; He helps whomever He wills; and only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 5 The promise of Allah; Allah does not renege on His promise, but most people do not know. 6 They only know the superficial realities of the worldly life and they are unaware of the life to come. 7 Do they not ponder about their own selves? God has created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them for a purpose and for an appointed time? Yet many deny they will ever meet with their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the land to see how terrible was the end of the people who lived before them. The people who lived before them were stronger than them in might, in tilling, and in developing the earth. Our Messengers came to them with clear miracles. God did not do an injustice to them but they wronged themselves. 9 Evil was the end of those evil-doers, for they gave the lie to Allah's Signs and scoffed at them. 10
