The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ A. L. M. 1 The Romans have been defeated. 2 In the nearer land, and they, after their defeat will be victorious 3 Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice 4 in God's help; God helps whomsoever He will; and He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 5 (It is) the promise of Allah. Never does Allah depart from His promise: but most men understand not. 6 They know an outward part of the present life, but of the Hereafter they are heedless. 7 Do they not ponder about their own selves? God has created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them for a purpose and for an appointed time? Yet many deny they will ever meet with their Lord. 8 Do they not travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength: they tilled the soil and populated it in greater numbers than these have done: there came to them their messengers with Clear (Signs). (Which they rejected, to their own destruction): It was not Allah Who wronged them, but they wronged their own souls. 9 Evil was the end of those evil-doers, for they gave the lie to Allah's Signs and scoffed at them. 10
