۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 saying: 'You used to come to us from the right hand' 28 They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 For we had led you astray. In fact we ourselves were astray." 32 On that day they will all share the torment. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 and will be recompensed only for what you deserve. 39 But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,- 40 there is waiting for them a known provision; 41 Fruits; and they shall be honoured, 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 They will turn to one another with questions: 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 Then he will look down and see him in the midst of the Flaming Fire. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 But for the Favor of Allah I should have surely been among those who were arraigned (with you in Hell). 57 Then, are we not to die 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 This will indeed be great happiness. 60 for which one must strive hard. 61 Is such [a paradise] the better welcome - or the [hellish] tree of deadly fruit? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 Truly, they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 So had many an earlier people gone astray, 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 Not so the chosen servants of God. 74
