۞ “Gather all the unjust persons and their spouses, and all that they used to worship!” – 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 What is the matter with you that you do not help each other? 25 Nay, but that Day they shall surrender, 26 And they will approach one another blaming each other. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. 31 We seduced you astray; verily we were ourselves the seduced ones. 32 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 You will indeed taste a painful punishment, 38 And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 For them is the sustenance known to Us. 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 There will neither be any harm in it for their body nor will it intoxicate their mind. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 As though they were eggs hidden. 49 Then some of them will turn to others, and will ask each other. 50 One of them says, 'I had a comrade 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 "Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)." 59 This will indeed be great happiness. 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 its spathes are like the heads of satans 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 And thereafter verily their return is unto the Flaming Fire. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps! 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
