۞ "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 They will turn to each other saying, 27 They will say: verily ye! ye were wont to come unto us Imposing. 28 They will answer, “You yourselves did not have faith!” 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 that is how We deal with evil-doers. 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 40 for them awaits a known provision, 41 fruits of various kinds; and they shall be honoured, 42 in the Gardens of Bliss, 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 white and delicious to those who drink it, 46 There will neither be any harm in it for their body nor will it intoxicate their mind. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth? 52 That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'" 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 Then he will look and see him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 So, are we not going to die, 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell. 68 They indeed found their fathers astray, 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 Except the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, and true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 74
