And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, 140 cast lots, and was among the losers. 141 Then he was swallowed by a large fish as he was worthy of blame. 142 Had he not been one of those who glorify Allah, 143 He would have stayed in its belly till the day the dead are raised. 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick, 145 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. 146 And We had sent him to a hundred thousand: rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed, so We gave them provision till a time. 148 Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons? 149 Or created We the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Lo! it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 "God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed! 152 Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you judge? 154 Will ye not then receive admonition? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Then bring your book, if you are truthful. 157 They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits). 158 God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him 159 but not so the true servants of God, 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 cannot mislead anyone 162 Save him who will go to hell. 163 [The angels say], "Every single one of us has his place assigned: 164 And verily we! we are ranged in ranks. 165 And we are those who sing hallelujas to Him." 166 They used to say: 167 'If only we had a reminder from the ancients, 168 "We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!" 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 And surely Our word has gone forth respecting Our servants, the messengers: 171 That they verily would be made triumphant. 172 And most surely Our host alone shall be the victorious ones. 173 So, (O Prophet), leave them alone for a while, 174 And see them thou; they themselves shall presently see. 175 Would they hasten on Our doom? 176 When it comes down on their plains, it will be an evil dawn for those who had been warned. 177 Stay away from them for a while 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 And all the praise and thanks be to Allah, Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 182
