AND, BEHOLD, Jonah was indeed one of Our message-bearers 139 When he fled on the laden ship, 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, 143 He would have remained in its belly till the day when all will be raised. 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind. 146 Then We sent him unto a hundred thousand, or more, 147 and they believed in him: so We let them live in ease for a while. 148 Now, ask them, has your Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Lo! verily it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 God hath begotten. Verily they are the liars. 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What ails you then, how you judge? 154 Will you not then reflect? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 And they have made between Him and the jinn a kinship whereas the jinn assuredly know that they are to be brought up 158 Glory be to God above that they describe, 159 Except His chosen creatures who do not. 160 So surely you and what you worship, 161 Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allah) anyone of the believers], 162 Except one who is (destined) to burn in Hell. 163 "There is not one of us who does not have his appointed place," (declare the angels.) 164 we are the rangers, 165 and we glorify God". 166 And they surely were wont to say: 167 "If we had a reminder as had the men of old (before the coming of Prophet Muhammad SAW as a Messenger of Allah). 168 Surely we would have been the bondmen of God sincere. 169 But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know. 170 And assuredly Our word hath already gone forth Our bondmen, the sent ones: 171 that they shall receive Our help 172 And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome. 173 Therefore turn away from them till a time, 174 And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see. 175 So are they being impatient for Our punishment? 176 Then, when it descends into their courtyard (i.e. near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned! 177 So turn thou from them for a while, 178 and see [them for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 179 Hallowed be thine Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they ascribe! 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. 182
