Hizb 46

Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 When he fled unto the laden ship, 140 And he drew lots and was among the losers. 141 and the fish swallowed him while he was blaming himself. 142 And had he not been of those who hallow Him, 143 He would certainly have tarried in its belly to the day when they are raised. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. 146 And [then] We sent him [once again] to [his people,] a hundred thousand [souls] or more: 147 And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. 148 So ask their opinion: “(Are you convinced) that your Lord should have daughters and you should have sons? 149 Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it? 150 Lo! verily it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 "Allah has begotten off spring or children (i.e. angels are the daughters of Allah)?" And, verily, they are liars! 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 What ails you that you judge in such a wise? 154 Will ye not then reflect? 155 Or have you a clear authority? 156 Bring your Book, if what you say is true! 157 And they have invented a kinship between Him and the jinns, but the jinns know well that they have indeed to appear (before Him) (i.e. they will be brought for accounts). 158 (They say): “Exalted be Allah above what they attribute to Him, 159 Except His chosen creatures who do not. 160 So you and your deities 161 Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allah) anyone of the believers], 162 except for he who shall roast in Hell. 163 "There is not one of us who does not have his appointed place," (declare the angels.) 164 We are surely those who are arranged in ranks. 165 And we are they who exalt (Allah)' 166 Even though they (unbelievers) say, 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 We would have been the chosen servants of Allah." 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 And indeed Our Word has already gone forth for Our bondmen who were sent. 171 That undoubtedly, only they will be helped. 172 And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be those who overcome. 173 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from those [who deny the truth,] 174 And watch them and they shall see (the punishment)! 175 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 176 But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned. 177 And turn away from them till a time 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Honor, above what they describe. 180 And peace be unto the sent ones. 181 And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds. 182
True are the words of God the Almighty.

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
