Verily Jonah is one of the apostles. 139 When he fled on the laden ship, 140 and sailed away in a laden ship, wherein people cast lots. Because he lost, he was thrown into the water. 141 The fish swallowed him up and he deserved (all this). 142 Had he not been one of those who acknowledge the glory of God, 143 He would have tarried in its belly till the day when they are raised; 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 and We caused a pumpkin tree to grow over him. 146 And [then] We sent him [once again] to [his people,] a hundred thousand [souls] or more: 147 and they believed in him: so We let them live in ease for a while. 148 Now ask them (O Muhammad SAW): "Are there (only) daughters for your Lord and sons for them?" 149 Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it? 150 Behold, it is one of their fabrications that they say: 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters over sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How judge ye? 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Or have you a clear authority? 156 Bring your Book, if what you say is true! 157 And they have invented a kinship between Him and the jinns, but the jinns know well that they have indeed to appear (before Him) (i.e. they will be brought for accounts). 158 limitless is God in His glory, above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 159 Except the bondmen of Allah sincere. 160 You and whatever you worship 161 can lure away from God any 162 Save him who is to burn in hell. 163 There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position); 164 we are the rangers, 165 Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise 166 And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say; 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 “We would certainly be the chosen bondmen of Allah.” 169 But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know! 170 And, verily, Our Word has gone forth of old for Our slaves, the Messengers, 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 and that Our army will be triumphant. 173 So turn away (O Muhammad SAW) from them for a while, 174 And see them thou; they themselves shall presently see. 175 Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment? 176 Then, when it descends into their courtyard (i.e. near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned! 177 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from them, 178 And watch, for they will soon see. 179 Glorified be thy Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they attribute (unto Him) 180 and peace be upon the Messengers, 181 and praise be to God, the Lord of all the Worlds. 182
