And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 He abandoned his people 140 Then he joined the lots, and was of the condemned. 141 The fish swallowed him up and he deserved (all this). 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 He would have tarried in the belly thereof till the Day when they are raised. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a bare desert whilst he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more, 147 So they accepted faith – We therefore gave them usage for a while. 148 Therefore ask them (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), whether the daughters are for your Lord and the sons for them! 149 Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it? 150 Verily, it is of their falsehood that they (Quraish pagans) say: 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What ails you then, how you judge? 154 Will you not then mind? 155 Or is there for you a plain authority? 156 Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful. 157 And they have invented a blood-relationship between Him and the Jinns: but the Jinns know (quite well) that they have indeed to appear (before his Judgment-Seat)! 158 Glorified be Allah from that which they attribute (unto Him), 159 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 160 Wherefore verily neither ye nor that which ye worship, 161 you shall tempt none against Him 162 except him who shall roast in the Blazing Fire. 163 [The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position. 164 We are surely those who are arranged in ranks. 165 "And we are verily those who declare (Allah's) glory!" 166 And indeed, the disbelievers used to say, 167 'If only we had had a Reminder from the ancients, 168 "We would have indeed been the chosen slaves of Allah (true believers of Islamic Monotheism)!" 169 But they disbelieve in it (the Koran), but soon they shall know! 170 And assuredly Our word hath already gone forth Our bondmen, the sent ones: 171 Most surely they shall be the assisted ones 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 (Muhammad), stay away from them for a while 174 See them and soon they shall see. 175 Do they really wish to hasten Our punishment? 176 But then, once it alights upon them, hapless will be the awakening of those who were warned [to no avail]! 177 And turn away from them till a time 178 And see, for they are going to see. 179 Hallowed be thine Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they ascribe! 180 and peace be upon the Messengers, 181 and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. 182
