Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By oath of the clear Qur’an. 2 Lo! We have appointed it a Lecture, in Arabic that haply ye may understand. 3 Indeed it is transcribed in the Original Book with Us; sublime and full of wisdom. 4 What! shall We then turn away the reminder from you altogether because you are an extravagant people? 5 And how many Prophets We did send among the earlier people! 6 But never did a prophet come at whom they did not scoff. 7 so We destroyed those who were mightier than these; such was the example of the earlier peoples. 8 Yet if you were to ask them: “Who created the heavens and the earth?” they will certainly say: “The All-Mighty, the All-Knowing has created them.” 9 [The one] who has made for you the earth a bed and made for you upon it roads that you might be guided 10 Who sent down water in due measure from the sky, then quickened a region that was dead -- So shall We bring you forth -- 11 And Who has created all the pairs and has appointed for you ships and cattle on which you ride, 12 That ye may mount upon their backs, and may remember your Lord's favour when ye mount thereon, and may say: Glorified be He Who hath subdued these unto us, and we were not capable (of subduing them); 13 And indeed we, to our Lord, will [surely] return." 14 Yet they make some of His servants partners in His divinity. Man is clearly ungrateful! 15

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
