If anyone withdraws himself from remembrance of (Allah) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him. 36 And indeed, the devils avert them from the way [of guidance] while they think that they are [rightly] guided 37 Until when he cometh unto Us, he will say. Ah! would that there had been between me and thee, the distance of the east and the west an evil companion 38 (He will then be told): “Today it will not benefit you the least that after your wrong-doing you and your satans now share the chastisement.” 39 Then will you make the deaf hear, [O Muhammad], or guide the blind or he who is in clear error? 40 And if We take thee away, We surely shall take vengeance on them, 41 Or We shall show thee that (accomplished) which We have promised them: for verily We shall prevail over them. 42 So hold thou fast to the Revelation sent down to thee; verily thou art on a Straight Way. 43 And most surely it is a reminder for you and your people, and you shall soon be questioned. 44 And ask those We sent before you of Our messengers; have We made besides the Most Merciful deities to be worshipped? 45
