And he whose sight is dim to the remembrance of the Beneficent, We assign unto him a devil who becometh his comrade; 36 And most surely they turn them away from the path, and they think that they are guided aright: 37 To the extent that when the disbeliever will be brought to Us, he will say to his devil, “Alas – if only there was the distance* of east and west, between you and me!” – so what an evil companion** he is! (* Had I not listened to you. **They will be bound together in chains.) 38 When ye have done wrong, it will avail you nothing, that Day, that ye shall be partners in Punishment! 39 Can you make the deaf to hear, or show the blind, and those lost in clear error, the way? 40 But if We should take you away, still We shall inflict retribution on them; 41 or We shall show you what We have promised them; for surely We have complete power over them. 42 So hold thou fast unto that which has been revealed unto thee; surely thou art upon a straight path. 43 The (Qur'an) is indeed the message, for thee and for thy people; and soon shall ye (all) be brought to account. 44 You can ask Our Messengers whom We sent before you if We had commanded them to worship other gods besides the Beneficent God?" 45
