And assuredly We sent Musa with Our signs unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, and he said: verily I am an apostle of the Lord of the worlds. 46 but when he came to them with Our signs, they ridiculed them, 47 And We showed them not a sign except that it was greater than its sister, and We seized them with affliction that perhaps they might return [to faith]. 48 'Sorcerer' they said, 'pray to your Lord for us in accordance to the covenant He has made with you, and surely we shall be rightly guided' 49 But when We removed the Penalty from them, behold, they broke their word. 50 And Pharaoh issued a call to his people, saying: "O my people! Does not the dominion over Egypt belong to me, since all these running waters flow at my feet? Can you not, then, see [that I am your lord supreme]? 51 Am I not better than this lowly man who can barely express himself? 52 Why then have bracelets of gold not been cast on him, or angels not come with him conjoined?' 53 So he made his people unsteady, and they obeyed him; surely they were an ungodly people. 54 So, when they angered Us, We punished them and drowned them every one. 55 We made them a precedent, an example for later peoples. 56
