Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
