Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HaMeem 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 So go forth with My servants by night; surely you will be pursued: 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
