Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HaMeem 1 By the luminious Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 The command that We have been sending 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
