NOW, VERILY, it is We who have created man, and We know what his innermost self whispers within him: for We are closer to him than his neck-vein. 16 (Remember!) that the two receivers (recording angels) receive (each human being after he or she has attained the age of puberty), one sitting on the right and one on the left (to note his or her actions). 17 He does not utter a single word, without a ready recorder seated next to him. 18 And death's agony comes in truth; that is what thou wast shunning! 19 The trumpet will certainly be sounded. This will be the day (about which you) were threatened. 20 Each soul shall come with a driver, and a witness. 21 (It will be said:) "Thou wast heedless of this; now have We removed thy veil, and sharp is thy sight this Day!" 22 And his companion will say: this is that which with me is ready. 23 (And it is said): Do ye twain hurl to hell each rebel ingrate, 24 "Who forbade what was good, transgressed all bounds, cast doubts and suspicions; 25 “The one who appointed another God along with Allah – so both of you fling him into the severe punishment.” 26 ۞ His [devil] companion will say, "Our Lord, I did not make him transgress, but he [himself] was in extreme error." 27 He will say, “Do not dispute before Me – I had already warned you of the punishment.” 28 and My word shall not be changed, nor am I unjust to My servants." 29
