Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness those who scatter (dust) by dispersing, 1 and the burden-bearers 2 And those that flow with ease and gentleness; 3 And the angels who distribute the affair. 4 Indeed, what you are promised is true. 5 And indeed, the recompense is to occur. 6 By the heaven containing pathways, 7 your ideas are confused. 8 He is turned away from it who would be turned away. 9 Woe to the falsehood-mongers,- 10 Who are careless in an abyss! 11 'When will the Day of Judgement be' they ask. 12 (It is) the day on which they shall be tried at the fire. 13 And it will be said to them, “Taste your own roasting; this is what you were impatient for.” 14 Surely the godfearing shall be among gardens and fountains 15 Taking joy in the things which their Lord gives them, because, before then, they lived a good life. 16 They slept very little during the night 17 And in the dawns they prayed for forgiveness. 18 And in their wealth the beggar and the outcast had due share. 19 There are many Signs on earth for those of sure faith, 20 As also in your own selves: Will ye not then see? 21 In the heavens there is your sustenance and that which you were promised (Paradise). 22 Then, by the Lord of heaven and earth, this is the very Truth, as much as the fact that ye can speak intelligently to each other. 23
