The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the mount 1 and by the Book in lines 2 On an open record. 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 And the roof exalted, 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 No one can avert it. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
