The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 and by the Book in lines 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 And the House frequented, 4 And the roof exalted, 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 And the mountains will move with a visible movement. 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
