The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the mount. 1 By the book inscribed. 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 by the House inhabited 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
