The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 by the House inhabited 4 By the roof elevated. 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is this magic or do you not see? 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
