The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount Sinai, 1 By the book inscribed. 2 in an exposed parchment 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
