The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount 1 and by the Book in lines 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
