The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
