The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the setting star, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
