The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
