The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
