The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
