The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Surely there hath come upon man a space of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning. 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful. 3 For the unbelievers, We have kept ready chains and fetters and a Blazing Fire. 4 Indeed the virtuous will drink from a cup, containing a mixture of Kafoor. 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. 6 They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 "Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislikeness to it)." 10 But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. 11 And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, 12 Reclining upon couches, they will find therein neither the heat of the sun nor bitter, biting cold, 13 The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. 14 And they will be waited upon with vessels of silver and goblets that will [seem to] be crystal 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 (The water of) a spring therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 When you look around, you will see delights and great dominion. 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 Surely this is a reward for you, and your striving shall be recompensed. 22
