The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
