The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
