The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
