The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 and taught to him 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
