The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence - 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 that ran on under Our Eyes, a recompense for him because he had been disbelieved. 14 We have left it as a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning. 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
