The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 And there belied the A'ad; so how dreadful have been My torment and warning! 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
