The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 Yet if they see a sign (the unbelievers) turn their backs and say: 'This is but a continuation of sorcery' 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 22
